The term "doping" is used to refer to the process which adds small amounts of an impurity (called a "dopant") to a material to change its physical or chemical properties. Examples include the addition of dopants to a semiconductor to change its degree of conductivity, and adding dopants to screen display phosphor to make it glow different colors.
